It looks like things can only get better for the ex-SMRT bus drivers who were involved in last November’s mass get-to-know-each-other-better session.

Well, at least for four of them who have been selected today as lucky winners to enjoy a free staycation of up to six to seven weeks at Changi Chalet.

They were the lucky winners picked out of the more than 100 SMRT bus drivers who were part of the mass gathering.

To build upon the fond memories of last year’s event, this little all-expenses paid trip is meant to boost the other bus drivers’ morale further.

After which, they will get to retire back to China permanently.

However, not all are as lucky.

One of the bus drivers who did not win the lucky draw, Zhong Guo Ren, said he is saddened that he was not picked to go with his friends: “I still have to buy my own ticket back to China.”

Just as unlucky is their company, SMRT, and the senior management in charge of the drivers.

None of them were picked as lucky winners, and therefore, were not provided with free meals and lodging at the tax-payer-funded Changi Chalet.

And some of the SMRT employees are saying this is an injustice.

One SMRT employee, Di Tier Zhan, said: “Why are the SMRT strike drivers the only ones to get to enjoy free food and accommodation? Such good fortune should be shared around. Because they are not the only ones who deserve this.”
