If public transport bus operators can get money for doing an okay job, why can’t people?

Singaporeans from all walks of life with varying inabilities are asking their employers for thousands of dollars each.

This after they learnt that bus operators SBS Transit and SMRT will get up to $6,000 each a month for making sure that their buses do not screw up and arrive on schedule.

One Singaporean, Mei Chu Xi, said: “I also want to be paid thousands of dollars extra just to show up to work and do what I ought to do by not making a hash out of everything.”

Others feel that such a reward scheme to pay more for making sure people and operators do what they ought to do will not cause other problems, like an inflated sense of self-entitlement or scammy behaviour.

Another local, Mei You Yong, said: “I like this idea of getting paid to not screw up.”

“Because it is totally unnatural to do okay at what I do, unless I get paid more.”

Just when you think the situation couldn’t get any worse…

An unidentified man was apparently left sprawling on the floor covered in blood, after a metal piece from the ceiling had collapsed and struck him. Either that, or he simply fell from a height while working on the 2nd floor, grabbing the metal piece as he fell, as what a reader pointed out. These grainy pictures were posted on Temasek Review’s Facebook Page, and were reportedly taken today at close to 3pm.

Details are still unclear, but we’ll update this article as more information comes in. We do not know if the man is alright. Sengkang MRT is within the Northeast line, which is managed by SBS Transit, while the North South line and East West line are managed by SMRT. Read the full story

Bus driver gets lost on the road for two hours, and yet no one thought of getting off?

Editor’s note: Two out of three editors are out of action.

Terence is back at in-camp training. Which means I won’t be seeing him for one week.

Shihan went to the Middle East. Which means I might never see him/ her ever again.

Therefore, all I can do is gather the best news that can create the most memes. Enjoy.

But first, here’s the biggest news item of the day in five seconds: On Sunday, SBS service number 52 took a detour along Bukit Timah road and got lost, meandering hopelessly for two hours.

One of the passengers, who happens to be Channel 8 news reporter Wu Liang Xiang, made a news item out of it as he was on the ill-fated ride.

And people inside the Internet are now saying it is the bus driver’s fault because he is from China. (You can watch the original full report here.)

Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t, that is for the people to decide.

Here at New Nation, we are only really keen on exploring the other side of things.

How the reporter really felt.

How Asian parent views hard work.

Er... it's hard to explain who Good Guy Greg is.

It might have lasted one hour instead of two.

Maybe the people on the bus could have just hopped off?

ComfortDelgro owns SBS Transit. Ahem.

The end.
