As the number of ministers is fixed, this is a zero-sum game.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on his Facebook in an April 8, 2015 post that it is the first time Parliament is having two Malay full ministers, which reflects the progress of the Malay community.

Cabinet changes that day saw three political office holders changing portfolios and MP Masagos Zulkifli promoted to a full minister.

However, Singaporeans from all walks of life noted that the progress of Malay community by having one more Malay minister comes at the cost of the Chinese and Indian community, who will then be regressing.

One Singaporean, Mah Lai Ren, said: “As the number of ministers inside the Cabinet is fixed, one ethnic group gains one extra, the others will naturally have one less. Therefore, it is a zero-sum game.”

At press time, the Eurasian community is being overlooked again.

Chinese say thank you.

The National Environment Agency has put out a new ad in the newspapers encouraging minority races to fight dengue:

Singapore got no Chinese

Singapore got no Chinese

Chinese Singaporeans interviewed said they are heartened by the ad’s message.

Hua Ren, a Chinese Singaporean, said: “It is clear who NEA thinks is responsible for keeping Singapore dengue-less.”

“Or who might be at fault.”

The ad’s targeting message has also won kudos from the professional sector.

Jiang Hua Yu, a creative director in advertising, who is Chinese, said: “The message is well-crafted and targets its audience very well, showing who should stop leaving their pails lying around with stagnant water.”

However, there are more than one way to read the message.

Another Singaporean Chinese, Zhen Chee Na, said: “Maybe NEA believes that dengue will only affect the Chinese in Singapore. So the minority races are the only ones left to clean up.”
