On the left is Justice Lai Siu Chiu, Singapore’s first female judge of the Supreme Court appointed in 1994. She retired on Oct. 30 just two weeks ago after more than 22 years of service.

On the right is Lee Li Lian, Workers’ Party’s MP for Punggol East SMC.

Doppelganger much?

From bomb site to First World Plaza.

Singaporeans staying in Puggol East SMC are profusely thanking Workers’ Party MP Lee Li Lian for personally rebuilding Rivervale Plaza.

This after having endured two long years of construction and upgrading to Sengkang’s oldest mall, which earlier this year during the Punggol East SMC by-election in January, resembled a bomb site and became an election hot button issue.

About 10 months after her by-election win, construction works started rounding up, signalling completion was in sight.

Xie Xie Ni, a Sengkang resident said: “If it wasn’t for Lee Li Lian, this place wouldn’t have been completed.”

Several blocks of HDB flats beside the Rivervale Plaza have been credited for helping WP win the Punggol East by-election held on Jan. 26 this year.

The blocks of flats are painted in Workers’ Party blue and are believed to have subliminally influenced residents to vote for WP.

Did PM Lee shoot himself in the foot with his rally statement about Meritocracy?

pm-lee-rally

At the final PAP rally held one day before cooling off day, PM Lee Hsien Loong tried to upturn the downturn by going on stage to speak in Mandarin, Malay and English to woo the Punggol East SMC constituents.

And he did a low blow. By mentioning his opposition candidate’s education achievements, like it matters. And like what Lee Kuan Yew had wanted to do last time when he told the press to publicise Chiam See Tong’s academic achievements — or lack of.

From Yahoo!’s coverage:

In proving a point that Singaporeans from all walks of lives and starting points can go far if they work hard in Singapore, PM Lee cited Workers’ Party candidate Lee Li Lian as one of the Singapore success stories.

“She went to N levels, she did her O levels, and went to Ngee Ann Polytechnic and did well, and later on got a degree on her own and now she is a candidate. So I say she shows that the Singapore system built by the PAP is a good one!” he said to a roaring crowd.

Ok wait…

Is it merely enough for Lee Li Lian to contest in the by-election to demonstrate that the Singapore system works?

And it’s all thanks to PAP?

I mean, anybody can contest… even Parrot Man…

Therefore, shouldn’t the real message be: Lee Li Lian ought to win the by-election to actually prove that Meritocracy works.

Since that’s the case, we would all like to sincerely thank PM Lee for endorsing WP candidate Lee Li Lian.

Kam sia, Sir.

PAP rally tonight? Ain't nobody got time for that!
