Why do married women commit adultery?

Why do married women commit adultery?

This is a 60-second reduction of the original article that appeared in The Sunday Times on Feb. 26.

Divorce lawyers and marriage counsellors say promiscuous wives are on the rise.

However, the divorce data is fudged as a lot of couples are practical and prefer to divorce on grounds of unreasonable behaviour rather than adultery even when cheating is involved.

Reason? Filing for adultery is costly at about $10,000 a pop and a private investigator report is needed plus identifying a third party in the marriage.

Filing on grounds of unreasonable behaviour cost about $3,500.

One major reason why more women are cheating is because they are getting richer and earn their own keep.

Women with money feel like they deserve to play hard and engage the services of social escorts and prostitutes for entertainment or business.

Social media also plays a role as it makes it easier for old flames to start flings.

Changing times also allow promiscuity to be associated with “modern”, “free” and “Westernised”, and creating a false or acceptance or expectation that “everyone is doing it”.

Public figures such as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie who claim to be in an open relationship make promiscuity cool.

One Singaporean woman even claimed that she engaged in an extramarital affair to get back at her husband for neglecting her after her miscarriage.

The 33-year-old unidentified woman also claimed to be working in a bank and the relationship was with a married male client.

The affair kept the client happy and helped fulfill her sales quota of financial products.

The affair lasted four months.
