Residents feel shortchanged.

Singaporeans from all walks of life, who believe in fairness and justice, are expecting a new MP who is of presidential calibre to take over Halimah Yacob in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC.

This after the famous Indian woman resigned from her political party to be president.

One Singaporean, Ha Lee Mah, said: “We do not want any basic run-of-the-mill person from PAP to be our MP in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC.”

“We only deserve an Indian woman who is presidential.”

“If we don’t, we are just shortchanging ourselves and settling for whatever comes along.”

Other locals said getting any ordinary MP does not bode well.

Another local, Yin Du Ren, said: “Getting an MP who is not presidential will only undermine the trust and respect of residents.”

“We must not give in. We must fight for another Indian person who is capable of becoming president.”

“That’s why we need Tharman Shanmugaratnam as our new MP.”
