Orchard Road smoking ban to improve suburban malls’ attractiveness

Posted on 01 July 2017

City Hall also the place to go for smokers.

Singaporeans from all walks of life, who know how to get around things easily because circumventing is what they do, are lighting up cigarettes and puffing away in the heartlands.

This after a smoking ban will be imposed on Orchard Road from July 1, 2018.

One Singaporean, Lao Bai Xing, said while puffing away outside a suburban mall: “Here’s to another reason not to go to Orchard Road anymore.”

“Why go to an expensive place and have your liberties curb?”

β€œIt is better to shop and hang out in a cheaper place and to have more freedoms.”

“Not only do suburban malls have everything Orchard Road has, we can smoke here some more.”

Other locals who are more well-to-do said they will undertake the necessary measures to get around any problems.

Another local, Jin Wu Lui, said: “Skipping Orchard will not be tough.”

“Smokers will just congregate at City Hall to smoke more freely, no problem.”

“Stone’s throw away only.”
