Parking coupons must be used to chope seats at food centres

Posted on 27 April 2017

50 cents for every 15 minutes of reservation.

Singaporeans from all walks of life, who need carrots and sticks to be mindful of what’s fair and square, are getting whipped into shape again.

This after the reservation of tables in hawker centres and coffee shops is only allowed with the use of parking coupons instead of tissue packets or umbrellas to prevent fighting.

One Singaporean, Pang Koo Poon, said: “By allowing parking coupons to be used for choping tables, it will reduce waiting times as now it costs money. This will also ensure the system is fair.”

“It is a win-win situation for all.”

However, to ensure this system of reservation is convenient, tissue packets with coupons inside will be sold to be used for reservation moving forward.

They will come in two categories: Cat A tissue packets for reserving tables for two with a holding period of 15 minutes and Cat B tissue packets for reserving tables for four with a holding period of 30 minutes.

Diners are advised to mix and match the various categories of tissue packets used for choping if they are eating in odd number groups of three, five and seven.

Anyone caught violating or tampering with the tissue packets may be jailed for up to seven years and fined S$500,000.
