S’pore increasing cost of electricity to raise awareness of its importance

Posted on 31 March 2017

If not, Singaporeans might take it for granted.

Singaporeans from all walks of life, even those from the 70 percent, are nodding their heads and looking thoughtful at what is to come.

This after Singapore is set to increase electricity tariffs by 6.1 percent for the next three months to raise awareness of its importance, as the only way to know something is important is if it is expensive.

One Singaporean, Hor Ley Pee, said: “Sometimes Singaporeans take electricity for granted. It is good to remind them that electricity is important and the only way to draw their attention to it is to increase the overall cost.”

“If the price goes up, the importance goes up as well.”

“The greater the pinch, the higher up the priority list.”

Other locals said it is important to increase the price of electricity.

Another local, Mai Huan Loh, said: “Just because the PAP logo is a lightning bolt does not mean Singaporeans can get electricity cheaply.”

“Everything has a price. Even when lightning in Singapore is omnipresent.”
