Mainstream media’s attitude towards 154th rank lacks character, must man up: S’pore athletes

Posted on 10 August 2016

It is hard to interview the best Olympians in Singapore when you yourself suck.

Singaporean athletes from that competitive walk of life, who are currently competing with the best in the world in the 2016 Olympics in Rio, have come out to demand mainstream media reporters to man up.

This after Singapore reporters hailing from the 154th ranking media in the world demanded world class local athletes to answer questions after their respective Olympic swimming races.

One Singaporean athlete, You Yong, said: “Reporters in Singapore are disappointing people with their attitude towards their abysmal international rankings buried at 154th position.”

“This lack of a proper response by the Singapore media to up standards shows an utter lack of character.”

Other sports people said this Olympics episode would allow the mainstream media to reflect on their failings over so many years.

Guan Jun, another sports person, said: “The mainstream media reporters must man up and face up to their failures and talk about them.”

“To always be at the bottom in the world is nothing to shout about, yes, but to not even acknowledge you suck is the problem of this perpetual embarrassment.”

“Stop trying to act like you are even qualified to interview the best.”
