S’poreans react to suggestion of paying $400 a month for HDB parking

Posted on 27 April 2016

Three thoughts you must have had.

To deter Singaporeans from driving in the future, there is a need to consider the running costs of owning a car instead of just the high purchase price.

If cost of a HDB parking lot is $400 a month, people will be deterred to drive, and eventually, car ownership can be a thing for the elites only.

Here are three thoughts Singaporeans have:

sian-half-auntie “It is hard to disagree with this suggestion if I was a minister earning millions a year.”
Zhen Fu Gong, 43-year-old civil servant

sian-half-uncle “If Singaporeans don’t own cars, the PAP will need to work harder to come up with other creative ways to increase taxes.”
Kiam Lui, 67-year-old licensed moneylender

happy-bird-girl “In the future, only elites can afford to drive so I know better who to marry.”
Jie Hoon, 16-year-old student
