S’poreans appeal for late LKY’s 38 Oxley Road house to be put up on Airbnb for rental

This will help unlock the value of the house in rental yields.

Thousands of Singaporeans from all walks of life, who like to book hotel rooms locally for staycations, have filed an appeal with the government to put up the late Lee Kuan Yew’s 38 Oxley Road house on room rental site Airbnb.

This after it was revealed that all three children of the late first prime minister favoured the demolition of the house in honour of their father’s last wish.

However, Singaporeans said the demolition of the house would be a pity as there are other ways to put the house to good use that will benefit society as a whole.

One Singaporean, Jiu Dian, said: “By listing 38 Oxley Road on room rental site Airbnb, the potential value of the property can be unlocked via rental yields.”

“Judging by 38 Oxley Road’s centralised location near town, one bedroom can easily fetch $40 to $50 a night.”

“The big garden is also a plus that will draw people from Singapore and all around the world to come by for a short stay and feel what it is like to be in the same premises as the man who founded modern Singapore.”

“Very inspiring.”

At press time, thousands of other Singaporeans are filling up an appeal to list the Istana on Airbnb as well.
