S’poreans react to PAP rubbishing suggestion they’re capitalising on Golden Jubilee celebration to win election

Posted on 14 August 2015

Three thoughts that must have went past your mind at some point.

Ng Eng Hen, the organising secretary for the People’s Action Party, has dismissed suggestions that the ruling party is trying to capitalise on the Golden Jubilee and the passing of Lee Kuan Yew with the timing of the coming general election in 2015.

Ng said that the PAP had been preparing for the election well before SG50 celebrations.

He said: “Are we capitalising on the golden jubilee and Mr Lee’s passing? We have been looking for candidates now for full four years.”

Here are three thoughts Singaporeans have:

sian-half-auntie “This is a reminder we tend to give the PAP too much credit for things sometimes.”
Bulao Er Huo, 44-year-old professional horse racing bettor

sian-half-uncle “It now worries me the PAP actually lacks foresight to plan ahead.”
Luan Luan Lai, 66-year-old geomancer

happy-bird-girl “If PAP could not even orchestrate something so straightforward, can we still trust them with Singapore’s future?”
Mei Qian Tu, 18-year-old delinquent
