Unfair that Lee Kuan Yew cannot run for GE2015

Posted on 27 July 2015

Election rules must be tweaked so that he can.

Singaporeans from all walks of life, who like to express their admiration for Lee Kuan Yew but do see it as hagiography, have come out to say that it is unfair that the founding prime minister cannot run for the upcoming General Election 2015.

This after he was not fielded as one of the candidates and a new potential candidate has taken his place at Tanjong Pagar GRC.

One Singaporean, Bu Gong Ping, said: “After all that Lee Kuan Yew has done for Singapore, can’t we just make an exception and let him run again in GE2015? Is this too much to ask for?”

“If Lee Kuan Yew got to run in GE2015 in Tanjong Pagar GRC, it is a good tribute to him.”

Another Singaporean, Gao Zhen Zhi, said letting Lee Kuan Yew run in the election now is not a matter of whether it is practical or not: “This is a matter of how much we respect him.”

“If we cannot retire Tanjong Pagar GRC to honour him, the least we can do is to at least let him run again in GE2015.”

“It is not as if we are barring any party from contesting in Tanjong Pagar GRC.”

“But that would have been ideal though.”
