S’poreans apologise to Tanjong Pagar GRC parachute MP: ‘Sorry you got into parliament unopposed’

Posted on 30 July 2015

We are sorry you won a seat so easily without trying.

Singaporeans from all walks of life who are feeling guilty have come forward to say sorry to Tanjong Pagar GRC PAP MP Dr Chia Shi-Lu.

This after Chia said the lack of a contest in Tanjong Pagar GRC in General Election 2011 is “a very big disadvantage” as he was parachuted in and was assured a seat unopposed.

One Singaporean, Mai Hao Seow, said he feels bad for Dr Chia and hopes he can forgive Singaporeans for letting him into parliament so easily without fighting tooth and nail: “I’m sorry, Dr Chia Shi-Lu. It is my fault you can earn many thousands of dollars a month sitting in parliament as an MP, all the while having suffered from the knowledge that your true mettle was not tested.”

“I deeply regret my actions for not opposing your entry and making you sweat a bit more. I hope you will not hold it against me and my fellow Singaporeans for your parachute entry.”

Other Singaporeans said the incumbent MP for Queenstown ward should be magnanimous in forgiving Singaporeans for their carelessness, as Singaporeans are prone to suffer from oversight.

Another Singaporean, Fan Dui Tang, said: “If we had known earlier that you wanted a good challenge, we could have mobilise more anonymous people to dig up on your past and campaigned against you.”

“But not to worry Dr Chia, this upcoming GE2015 is happening soon.”

“You shall have your mettle tested.”
