Audience disappointed The LKY Musical had other characters besides Lee Kuan Yew

They were distracting to history and his story.

Saying how they felt slightly cheated, some members of the paying audience have expressed disappointment that The LKY Musical is not solely focused on Lee Kuan Yew only.

This after they watched the production and discovered to their horror that it also included other characters such as Lee Kuan Yew’s wife, Kwa Geok Choo, and former deputy Prime Minister Toh Chin Chye, all of whom, to some extent, played a role in making Singapore what it is today.

One upset audience member, Zho Hee Seow, said: “It is not nice to market a musical as The LKY Musical and then proceed to feature more than one character.”

“The only reason I wanted to watch it was because I wanted to see Lee Kuan Yew single-handedly build Singapore from scratch but I was left utterly disappointed when I learnt he was but one man.”

“If that was the case, I wouldn’t have watched. It completely ruined my image of him.”

Another local, Kwa Hee Gong, said not only were the other characters distracting, the musical was let down by a lack of tributes to Lee Kuan Yew: “There should have been a disclaimer on the flyer and poster saying that this musical is not solely dedicated to Lee Kuan Yew only.”

“I wanted to feel like this musical was about celebrating the man, showing what he did and how he behaved in his everyday life, what were his inner thoughts, how he reacted.”

“But what I got was a lot of people singing. That didn’t add to my understanding of Lee Kuan Yew at all.”
