S’porean leaks letter of compensation sent to Dallas Buyers Club LLC lawyers

Posted on 10 April 2015

I’m sorry I didn’t contribute to Hollywood actors’ million-dollar salaries.

Dear Lawyer Samuel Siao,

I received your letter of demand asking for compensation for my alleged downloading of Dallas Buyers Club off an illegal file-sharing network.

I would like to extend my sincerest regret to you, which you will help convey to your client: I am truly sorry for being unable to contribute to Hollywood actors’ million-dollar salaries and depriving them of their wealth.

But most importantly, I would like to apologise from the bottom of my heart for my inability to pay for a $10 movie that has resulted in Hollywood stars taking a pay cut from $20 million to $18 million a film, and as a result, them having to move out of their Beverly Hills mansions and further away from their gated Los Angeles community.

I do believe in improving the financial health of Hollywood in general, as actors and actresses have to own private jets and have an entourage of personal minders paid from their meagre salaries. This is something that is hard for them to get by without.

As and when Hollywood stars suffer, the audience also pays the ultimate price.

Imagine, in any given year, Hollywood actually has to spend lesser money — due to reduced income stemming from piracy — making lesser movies, such as Paul Blart: Mall Cop and another Night at the Museum sequel.

Imagine these movies will never have been made.

The horror! Audiences around the world would pay good money to watch such movies. Yes, I’m sure they would.

Therefore, as restitution, I am willing to offer a compensation of $8. Dallas Buyers Club is a good movie, but it has left a bad aftertaste in my mouth.

It’s actually the companies that gets the biggers portion of the movie. They’re not fighting for the actors, they’re fighting for themselves. they want your money.
