2 full Malay ministers reflect progress of Malay community, regress of Chinese & Indian community

As the number of ministers is fixed, this is a zero-sum game.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on his Facebook in an April 8, 2015 post that it is the first time Parliament is having two Malay full ministers, which reflects the progress of the Malay community.

Cabinet changes that day saw three political office holders changing portfolios and MP Masagos Zulkifli promoted to a full minister.

However, Singaporeans from all walks of life noted that the progress of Malay community by having one more Malay minister comes at the cost of the Chinese and Indian community, who will then be regressing.

One Singaporean, Mah Lai Ren, said: “As the number of ministers inside the Cabinet is fixed, one ethnic group gains one extra, the others will naturally have one less. Therefore, it is a zero-sum game.”

At press time, the Eurasian community is being overlooked again.
