S’poreans confused why S’pore Airlines will sign sponsorship agreement with Formula One

Posted on 15 April 2014

They ask if passengers will now get to drive racing cars to their travel destination instead of flying SQ?

Singaporeans from all walks of life woke up this morning feeling confused.

This after they read in the news that Singapore Airlines has signed a two-year sponsorship agreement with Formula One.

One Singaporean, Da Fei Ji, said: “You mean now no need fly aeroplane but drive sports car can reach the destination also?”

The confusion was worsened as Ong Beng Seng from Singapore Grand Prix said the “synergistic partnership” between the two parties provides wide exposure and opportunities in promoting Singapore and Formula One to the world

Another local, Tao Jian Tia, said: “You mean cannot use Internet to promote F1 around the world meh?”

However, other Singaporeans who have made a slight breakthrough in their understanding said they get where SIA and F1 are coming from.

Wo Ming Bai, another Singaporean, said: “I get it. The SIA Girls will drive the car for this year’s F1 night race in Singapore.”

“Then the winners will go onto the podium and spray champagne on each other’s chest. Nice.”
