World officially runs out of awards to hand over to Ilo Ilo filmmaker

Posted on 30 October 2013

Film judges and juries cracking their heads wondering what to award Anthony Chen next.

Home-grown director Anthony Chen’s award-robbing Ilo Ilo film has swept the slate of cinematic awards clean.

This after his film about a maid trying to hold a Singaporean family together bagged three more awards last Saturday in Ukraine.

This was after winning awards in the United States. Which was after winning some awards in France.

The film has won awards for most touching scene, best narrative, best sound, best supporting actress, best supporting actor, best scene without dialogue, best make up and many others.

Singaporean movie-goers, who were initially elated that a Singaporean director is getting worshipped around the world for his genius, said they have gotten bored of hearing news that Chen’s critically acclaimed darling of a film has won some more accolades.

Ting Dao Xian, a local, said: “If this week he never win, I go buy 4D. Confirm strike.”

However, there are still some Singaporeans who are quite supportive of Ilo Ilo‘s winning streak.

Oh Bee Kut, a Singaporean who enjoys movies, said: “I think every time Anthony Chen wins an award, Jack Neo will suffer a bit of butthurt.”
