No real Talking Point, just blah blah blah

Posted on 04 June 2013

So what went down on Talking Point with Tan Chuan-Jin?

A one-minute summary about nothing in particular:

Well, Acting Minister of Manpower Tan Chuan-Jin would only say throughout the show that MDA regulations are meant to cover news sites.

And if blogs evolved into news sites, yes, they will be included.

However, he reiterated the regulation was to deal with incendiary content such as films like Innocence of Muslims.

And then Bertha Henson said such material never appeared on the 10 websites the MDA wants licensed in the first place. What gives?

This means that the government is trying to regulate the websites that didn’t post such content? Is the licensing scheme poorly conceived then?

And with regards to why Tan Chuan-Jin was on the show and not MDA’s CEO Koh Lin-Net, this was his explanation:

ā€œ(There are) quite a lot of interesting theories online about why Iā€™m here (on the show). I would say that when we pass regulations, policies, where there is quite a lot of public interest, I think it is important for the public office holders to front it.ā€

Thank you for providing that soundbite in English, because I don’t know what you just said.

Basically, for those of you who watched the show, I’m terribly sorry, you have wasted your life.

There was nothing that was said today that you did not already know about since last Tuesday.
