Singaporeans from all walks of life, who recognise an amazing feat when they see one, are applauding non-stop and nodding their heads in appreciative acknowledgement.

This after a swimming pool was completed in 20 minutes.

One Singaporean, Yew Yong, said: “As a Singaporean, I am proud that this will continue to add to our reputation for being fast and efficient.”

“It is always great to see community projects like this where world class facilities sprout up like mushrooms out of nowhere.”

Other Singaporeans said the initiative for the fastest swimming pool to be built must have been conceived by the best engineering brains the country has to offer.

Another local, Jia Xiang, said: “It really brings us back to the days when we were in kampung living.”

“No one I recall voted for this, so that makes it an even more pleasant surprise.”

At press time, more of such swimming pools are being built all over Singapore.

This is because water is precious.

There seems to be more and more private swimming pools nowadays, with practically every condominium, executive condo and even private home here having one.

Such a scarce resource should not be used so extensively in such a manner here, especially with water levels falling amid the current dry spell (“Water levels low at Singapore’s main source”; March 23).

Private owners of swimming pools should be made to pay a much heavier levy for the water they use to fill their pools.

There could even be a bidding system — similar to the certificate of entitlement (COE) system — where home owners must bid for a COE to build a private pool.

Perhaps the number of public swimming pools here should also be reduced to save water.
