For the last six years, SAF soldiers who ordered food at a Bedok Food Centre stall were getting free top-ups of rice, chicken and eggs discreetly.

The stall is called Long Wu Bang and it is run by 55-year-old Tan Bee Seng.

His free top-ups came to light in April this year when an NSF posted about his experience on Facebook.

When interviewed, Tan said he didn’t mind making small sacrifices by doling out extras as he understands how hard training is for soldiers and the downtrodden.

He said: “I don’t mind giving them more rice and meat, it is my way of supporting them.”

The extra food is thought to eat into about 2 percent of his profits, where he makes about $3,000 to $4,000 a month.

He sells food to about 200 soldiers a week, who mainly come from Bedok Camp nearby.

He has a 24-year-old son who has completed his national service and a 20-year-old son who will enlist in August.

Please salute this uncle!
