50 cents for every 15 minutes of reservation.
From now on, Singaporeans who want to reserve tables in hawker centres and coffee shops must use parking coupons instead of tissue packets.
As car park rates have increased, there will be a similar rise in parking at food centre tables.
One Singaporean, Pang Koo Poon, said: “By allowing parking coupons to be used for choping tables, it will reduce waiting times.”
“It will also help reduce the circulation of leftover old 50-cent parking coupons.”
“It is a win-win situation for all.”
After all the leftover parking coupons have been used up and put out of circulation, tissue packets sold with coupons inside will be used for reservation.
They will come in two categories: Cat A tissue packets for reserving tables for two with a holding period of 15 minutes and Cat B tissue packets for reserving tables for four with a holding period of 30 minutes.
Diners are advised to mix and match the various categories of tissue packets used for choping if they are eating in odd number groups of three, five and seven.
Anyone caught violating or tampering with the tissue packets may be jailed for up to seven years and fined S$500,000.
