So close.

Singaporeans from all walks of life, who believe the more multi-religious and multi-racial the country is the better because there will be more public holidays, have heaved a sigh of regret.

This after they noticed that Deepavali falls on a Saturday, Oct. 29, which means the long weekend holiday is just missed by one day.

One Singaporean, Hua Ren said: “So close. If only it was on Friday or Sunday, then it will be three days off.”

“This is one of those missed opportunities.”

Other Singaporeans said more has to be done to ensure this does not happen again.

Fang Jia, a local, said: “To compensate for this lack of a long weekend, Singapore must recognise more ethnic groups to increase the overall number of public holidays a year.”

“If not Singapore is not as diverse as it claims to be.”
