Adults who assault teenagers in public will be made to spend time with youths to get to know them better as part of rehabilitation efforts.
This after it was was revealed in parliament recently by the Ministry of Social and Family Development that youths who make offensive remarks are to interact with people of other races and religions as part of their punishment.
A MSF spokesperson, Zho Peng Yew, said: “These measures encourage offenders to take responsibility for their actions and equip them with the life skills to embark on constructive lifestyles. The involvement of families is also critical in the rehabilitation of youth offenders.”
Singaporeans who heard of this initiative said they were supportive of the idea.
Qu Zuo Lao, a local, said: “Amos Yee will be made to hang out with the religious, Amos Yee’s slapper will be made to hang out with teenagers, drug traffickers will be made to hang out with drug addicts and pimps caught living off the wages of the prostitutes they control will be made to hang out with the prostitutes they control.”
“Eh wait, that’s already happening and it’s not effective what.”
Then people caught vandalising must be made to hang out with the walls they vandalise?:
