They agree they should sit in one corner at home to maintain quality of life.

Singaporeans from all walks of life, who are running on the tradmill of life that is getting increasingly faster, are apologetic that the high cost of living they are experiencing is their own fault.

This after Defence Minister, Ng Eng Hen, said recently that higher aspirations of Singaporeans has led to higer cost of living.

One Singaporean, Mei You Qian, said: “Ya, I’m sure I’m responsible for pushing up the cost of rental that brings in more money for rent-seeking capitalists. And it is my fault that I let in so many foreigners into this country.”

Other locals also agree they have a hand in lowering their own costs.

Jiang Dao Li, another Singaporean, said: “Ya, there are many ways for Singaporeans to lower their cost of living. One way is to avoid buying an HDB flat. Another way is to not buy a car. And try not to get married. And eat two meals a day.”

“And don’t go out. And don’t make friends.”
