These days, a three-bedroom condo unit is built as big as five HDB carpark spaces.
That’s 635 square feet, or in plain English, simply will not do if your Momma’s so fat, she has to iron her pants on the driveway.
Imagine: A typical three-bedroom apartment occupies between 1,000 and 1,500 square feet. That’s almost two to three times the size of a Mickey Mouse apartment.
Which means that at about half the typical space, your toes will be in the kitchen every time you climbed into bed for the night.
If you had sex in the house, you would have indeed done it everywhere – simultaneously.
And when you cook in the kitchen, you can also take a shower at the same time.
Such compact size apartments are unheard of, which is why Natura, a 193-unit full facilities condominium at Hillview Terrace, is setting what could be a precedent for future condo housing.
It is so small, yet people still buy it. They must be mad, surely.
Now here are the other facts that will knock your socks off: In 2011, approximately one in seven homes sold by developers was a Mickey Mouse apartment.
Buyers bought a record of 2,037 of them last year. These were all new, mind you.
The popularity of these holes in the wall stems from the fact that they are relatively cheap: Under $1 million usually.
They are either bought by young professionals, singles or childless couples and investors hoping to rent out the unit.
